The program was rocked just before spring football practice when a Notre Dame football rival abruptly fired a head coach following investigations.
The announcement that the Cardinals fired head coach Troy Taylor on Tuesday morning was unavoidable for long-time rival Stanford, but it still dealt a severe blow to a school that, to be honest, feels like it will be difficult to establish itself in the new world of collegiate athletics.
Following a revelation last week that revealed two independent investigations into Taylor’s conduct of female coworkers, his termination still appeared certain. It was also stated at the time that the school had penalised him.
Just as the football program is getting ready for spring practice, new Stanford general manager Andrew Luck released a statement on Tuesday explaining why the Notre Dame football opponent fired their head coach.
A rival of Notre Dame football is searching for a new head coach.
It’s possible that Luck couldn’t stand having a coach who was being criticised like way on staff any longer, as seen by Stanford’s refusal to wait for a better opportunity to fire Taylor. It’s also important to note that Luck hasn’t been considering this scenario for as long as some others have.
At the end of last November, the former NFL quarterback and Cardinal was promoted to general manager. The ESPN article from last week probably sparked the urgency for a genuine response as quickly as possible.
For just two seasons, Taylor had led the venerable Notre Dame football foe. After being hired out of Sacramento State in 2023, he led the team to identical 3–9 results in his two years in charge.
Although Luck stated in his speech that a permanent job might not be made for the 2025 season, the Cardinals have not yet announced an interim coach. What is known is that a new coach will be leading Notre Dame football when it plays Stanford to end the regular season.
