After suffering an elbow injury, former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck left Georgia last spring to play for the Miami Hurricanes in South Beach. Red flag, according to one NFL general manager.
In 2025, the Georgia Bulldogs will have a new quarterback in Gunner Stockton, who is expected to start after Carson Beck was the starting quarterback in Athens for two years. After suffering a shoulder injury during the SEC Championship game, Beck reportedly moved to Miami for $4.5 million in NIL.
Depending on who you speak to, you’ll probably hear different versions of the story about whether Beck wanted to return to Georgia after his name was removed from the 2025 NFL Draft or whether Georgia even wanted him to return. But one NFL general manager views departing Georgia as a warning sign.
“(Carson) Beck, either by Kirby (Smart) letting him go or choosing to go, either way is a big red flag,” the NFL general manager said on SI in reference to the 2026 NFL Draft quarterback class. He clearly feels hurt by us. He didn’t depart to receive better coaching, play against better opponents, or win. It’s not good for him. That defies logic and leaves you wondering about a lot of things.
The University of Georgia has established a strong relationship with a number of successful NFL teams. There are at least two former Bulldogs on the rosters of the Falcons, Raves, Bills, Bengals, Browns, Packers, Jags, Chargers, Rams, Raiders, Eagles, Steelers, and 49ers. The Eagles have the greatest percentage of Bulldogs on their roster (13%), with seven former Bulldogs on the team.
