Super Eagles forward, Nathan Tella has shut down speculation linking him with a move away from Bayer Leverkusen, insisting he is happy at the club.
Tella, who joined Leverkusen from Southampton in the summer of 2023, has quickly adapted to life in Germany and become an important part of Xabi Alonso’s squad.
The 25-year-old played a key role in Leverkusen’s historic domestic double last season and has continued to be a reliable figure in the current campaign.
So far this season, Tella has featured in 35 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
His consistent performances have helped keep Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title conversation, despite currently sitting six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
Speaking to BILD after training on Wednesday, the Nigerian winger dismissed rumours of a possible transfer and reaffirmed his commitment to the club.
“I really like it here. When I came here, I didn’t know much about the club or German football. But even in the first two weeks, I truly understood what it means to play for and represent this club,” Tella said. “I have no reason to leave, I’m more than happy here. I want to stay.”
Tella also believes the Bundesliga title race is still alive. “A six-point gap isn’t much in football,” he said. “It’s up to us; we want to win as many games as possible and get to the top.”
The winger is currently recovering from a knock sustained in Leverkusen’s match against Union Berlin, where he was forced off shortly after halftime following a first-half collision.
However, Tella is optimistic about returning to action in time for Sunday’s clash against St. Pauli. “If it were up to me, I’d always play. But that’s something the coach and the medical department have to decide,” he added.
As he eyes a full return to fitness, Tella will also be hopeful of a Super Eagles recall ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup in May.
The four-nation tournament, which includes Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, will serve as preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resuming later this year.
