Oweh’s decision will be a defining moment for the program heading into the 2025-26 season.
Otega Oweh’s decision to come back to Kentucky for his senior year isn’t confirmed yet, but based on his performance during his initial season in Lexington, the prospect of playing another year in 2025-26 is certainly attractive. As the offseason brings important choices, Wildcat fans are eagerly anticipating updates on whether their standout guard will return or move forward to pursue a professional career.
A Season of Growth and Dominance Although Kentucky’s season concluded in disappointment with a Sweet 16 defeat to Tennessee, Oweh’s performance was truly outstanding.
The former Oklahoma transfer emerged as the clear leader of the Wildcats, receiving All-SEC Second Team recognition while averaging a team-high of 16.2 points per game. His contributions extended beyond scoring, as he also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, two steals, and one block per game.
Standing at 6-foot-4, Oweh has evolved into one of the most dynamic drivers in college basketball. His knack for attacking the rim and finishing against defenders poses a significant challenge for opponents.
Nonetheless, his primary hurdle lies in his perimeter shooting. With a 35.5% shooting percentage from beyond the arc, Oweh has displayed moments of growth but will need to enhance his consistency to strengthen his NBA draft prospects.

Oweh’s name has surfaced on NBA Draft radars, but he isn’t a surefire selection—at least not yet. While his athleticism and scoring ability are enticing, NBA teams often prioritize elite shooting from guards of his stature. Testing the draft waters could provide Oweh with valuable feedback from scouts and executives, helping him make an informed decision about his next move.
If he returns, Oweh wouldn’t just be the heart and soul of Kentucky’s lineup—he’d be a frontrunner for All-SEC First Team honors and possibly an All-American candidate. More importantly, another season under Mark Pope’s system could elevate his draft standing and refine his all-around game.
