Any interest from Manchester City in a summer transfer for Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz has likely ended following a new development on the player’s future.
The four-in-a-row Premier League champions are expected to be on the search for full-back recruits during the upcoming summer transfer window with a number of names already tipped to be targets.
Alongside Tottenham and Italy’s Destiny Udogie – who reportedly has admirers within the Etihad Stadium – the North London full-back’s compatriot Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus is expected to be Manchester City’s primary option this summer.
The 25-year-old first emerged as a target for the Etihad club during the January market and while Manchester City did insist through press briefings that a move was more likely to be addressed in the summer, interest was far from ruled out.
But one name that has been tenuously mentioned for the role of right-back in South American press is Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz, who has now taken steps in his career that would likely end any pursuit from Manchester City should that be of interest.
That is according to the information of journalist Alan Nixon, who reveals that Munoz has now signed a new deal with Crystal Palace, adding a further 12 months until his original agreement which ran until the summer of 2028.
It is further revealed that the South American defender has also seen his salary at Selhurst Park rise by around 50 per cent, as a further reflection of the fine progress he has made at the South London club.
It was originally reported in early February by Antena 2 that Daniel Muñoz had emerged on the transfer radar of Manchester City, accompanied by interest from top-flight rivals Chelsea as well as FC Barcelona.The report at the time suggested that Pep Guardiola was the man leading the club’s interest, viewing the player as an option to replace Kyle Walker, who is expected to leave Manchester City on a permanent deal this summer.
For now it remains to be seen just where Walker could end up, with question marks still lingering over whether AC Milan would be happy to trigger their buy-option included in the veteran full-backs loan deal from Manchester City.
