After spending three years at Indiana University in Bloomington, Malik Reneau is set to return to his roots. The 6-foot-9 forward/center announced on Wednesday that he will transfer and play his final season of college basketball for the Miami Hurricanes in his hometown of Miami, Florida.

Reneau, who had a solid career with the Indiana Hoosiers, will now join the Miami Hurricanes under the guidance of their new head coach, Jai Lucas. The move back to Miami holds special significance for Reneau, as he is returning to his home state to finish his collegiate career. In a heartfelt message shared on his X account, Reneau expressed his excitement about the move, writing, “I’m coming home. It’s all about the U.” This marks a new chapter for the player as he transitions to a new environment and team, looking forward to the next phase of his basketball journey.

During his time at Indiana, Reneau made notable contributions as a junior, starting in 19 of the 26 games he played. However, his season was somewhat interrupted by a midseason knee injury, which limited his playing time and performance for part of the year. Despite the setback, Reneau’s impact on the court for the Hoosiers was evident, and he was regarded as a key player for the team.

Now, as he heads back to Miami, Reneau will bring his skills and experience to the Hurricanes, looking to make an impact in his final college basketball season. With a fresh start under new leadership, Reneau’s decision to return to his hometown has the potential to be a great opportunity for both him and the Miami program. Fans of the Hurricanes can expect Reneau to bring his strength and versatility to the court, hoping to contribute significantly to the team’s success.

Malik Reneau had an impressive junior season, averaging a team-high 13.3 points per game, along with 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He shot an efficient 55.2% (139-of-252) from the field and 73.3% (66-of-90) from the free-throw line.

Over his three years in Bloomington, Reneau accumulated 1,013 points while appearing in 94 games and starting in 55 of them.

Reneau initially committed to Indiana in 2022 after decommitting from Florida. He chose to join his high school teammate and friend, Jalen Hood-Schifino, at Indiana, where they played under head coach Mike Woodson. In announcing his decision to transfer, Reneau took a moment to express his gratitude towards Woodson and the Indiana staff. In an Instagram post, he wrote, “I want to thank Coach Woodson and his entire staff for giving me an opportunity to play at Indiana. I will miss the fans and all the great people in Bloomington.”
