Cincinnati made significant financial commitments to long-term extensions for wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, which has left the defense with fewer resources for rebuilding. As a result, the Bengals may need to explore short-term, value-driven signings in free agency to address gaps in the secondary, while the front office focuses on building an affordable yet competitive defense through the draft.
One potential option for strengthening the defense is cornerback Stephon Gilmore, a former Defensive Player of the Year who most recently played for the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year, $7 million contract in 2024.
Gilmore hasn’t made a Pro Bowl in the last three seasons, but he started all 15 games he played for the Vikings last year. He ended the season with nine pass breakups and one interception.
