Week 15 in the NFL was by far the best slate of the season, and it definitely delivered.
We have to start with the Chiefs missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season after losing to the Chargers. Making matters way worse, late in the fourth quarter Patrick Mahomes suffered a knee injury that turned out to be a season-ending torn ACL. Is the Chiefs’ dynasty over? Not with Mahomes and Andy Reid, it’s not, but there are major questions to answer this offseason.
From playoff elimination to playoff clinching, the Broncos (beat Packers) and Rams (defeated Lions) are the first two teams headed to the postseason. With three weeks to play, they are the No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences.
The Patriots had a great opportunity to join them as the AFC East champions, but after jumping out to a 21-0 lead, they couldn’t contain Josh Allen, James Cook and the Buffalo offense in an eventual 35-31 defeat.
Elsewhere in the NFL, the Bears are back atop the NFC North after crushing the Browns; Trevor Lawrence totaled six touchdowns in a 48-point onslaught against the Jets; the Ravens blanked Joe Burrow and the Bengals; the Seahawks spoiled Philip Rivers’ fairytale comeback; and nobody wants to win the NFC South after the Saints upset the Panthers.
As for other notable injuries, Micah Parsons is believed to have suffered a torn ACL, per multiple reports, and Davante Adams left his game after aggravating an already gimpy hamstring. The Parsons injury is a major blow to a vaunted Packers defense, while Adams’ injury could be detrimental for a Rams offense that has been rolling all season.
