Aston Villa Secure the Signing of Netherlands International Lynn Wilms
Aston Villa Women have bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Dutch defender Lynn Wilms, making her the club’s first signing ahead of the new season.
Wilms, 24, arrives from Bundesliga powerhouse VfL Wolfsburg, where she enjoyed a successful four-year spell. During her time in Germany, she featured in over 100 matches and played a key role in the club’s strong performances in both domestic and European competitions, including their campaigns in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, a tournament Wolfsburg has won twice.
Known for her defensive versatility, Wilms is adept at playing both as a right-back and a centre-back. Her consistent performances have earned her 54 international caps with the Netherlands national team. She is currently representing her country at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, where she made an appearance in their opening Group D match against Wales, coming on in the second half to replace Manchester City defender Kerstin Casparij.
Marisa Ewers, Aston Villa’s director of women’s football, expressed her excitement over the signing:
“Lynn brings a wealth of experience from competing at the highest levels of the game. She has played on some of the biggest stages in Europe, and we believe her presence will be instrumental in helping us push toward our long-term goal of securing European qualification.”
Aston Villa will be looking to build on their solid 2023–24 campaign, in which they finished sixth in the Barclays Women’s Super League, as they aim to climb higher in the table and challenge for continental competition in the near future.
