Pyramids FC star Ewerton has revealed the African champions’ main ambition following the team’s elimination from the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The Egyptian side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brazilian giants Flamengo in the semi-finals at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, on Saturday.
Therefore, the South American champions progressed to the final, where they will face French side Paris Saint-Germain, the UEFA Champions League holders, on December 17.
Brazilian winger Ewerton, who joined Pyramids in July that year, believes global tournaments such as the Intercontinental Cup are a significant step in the club’s development.
“It’s an honour for us to be on this stage, a new club of just eight or nine years. The whole experience was really good and it has given us that desire to want to come back,” Ewerton told the FIFA website.
“We knew from the beginning that it was going to be tough against Flamengo but we created some chances which we missed, so it was unlucky for us. If we scored those chances I think the game could have been totally different.
“Last season though was really great for us, we won the [CAF] Champions League for the first time, which was huge for the club,” the 28-year-old continued.
“Now we have to make sure that we do it again so that we can return to this competition, come back here at least one more time and play against these big clubs, which is just an amazing experience.”
Pyramids will qualify for the 2026 Intercontinental Cup if they win this season’s CAF Champions League, where they are currently competing in the group stage.
