John Wick 5: A Bold New Direction for the Legendary Assassin
The John Wick franchise is gearing up for its fifth installment, and while the film is still in pre-production, exciting details are already emerging. Director Chad Stahelski has confirmed that John Wick 5 will take the story in a fresh and unexpected direction, breaking away from the narrative threads of the previous films.
At the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, it appeared that John had met his end after defeating Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont in a climactic duel. With his obligations to the High Table finally resolved, it seemed the assassin’s journey had concluded. However, Stahelski has revealed that the next film will not continue the storyline centered on the High Table. Instead, it will explore a new chapter in John’s life, one that shows him having moved past his grief and former life. “The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up,” Stahelski told Empire. “So the only way to do a fifth film is to create a completely new story involving John. It’s going to feel very different, and once people see the trailer, they’ll be blown away.”
Before the release of John Wick 5, fans will get a deeper look into John’s past through an upcoming anime prequel. This animated film will be set before the events of the original John Wick movie and will depict the fateful mission that established him as the world’s most elite assassin. Assigned by the High Table, Wick is ordered to eliminate all of his rivals in a single night in order to escape his violent history. The R-rated film will be directed by Shannon Tindle, known for his work on Lost Ollie and Kubo and the Two Strings.
Meanwhile, fans can catch another glimpse of the John Wick universe in the highly anticipated spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. The film is set to premiere in theaters on June 6, 2025, offering more high-octane action and a deeper exploration of the franchise’s expanding world.
