The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed that Bafana would face Ghana in Gauteng on 16 December 2025, before Hugo Broos’ men are set to depart for Morocco for the tournament.
While Ghana secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, they will not be among the teams competing at the 2025 AFCON, and as a result, South Africa is set to take on Ghana’s ‘Black Galaxies’ instead of the ‘Black Stars’.
The ‘Black Galaxies’ is comprised of locally-based players only, meaning the likes of Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, Tottenham Hotspur’s Mohammed Kudus, and Monaco’s Mohammed Salisu will not be with the team.
In a statement released by the Ghana Football Association (FA), the association revealed the game was tasked as a send-off game for South Africa, while the game would also prepare the Ghanaian side for their African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers.
Mingle revealed the 20-man squad that features players only based in Ghana, such as Lawrence Osei from Heart of Lions FC, Medeama SC’s Kamaradini Mamudu and Prince Owusu and Emmanuel Annot from Nations FC.
