Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer recently joined Greg McElroy’s Always College Football podcast to discuss the Crimson Tide’s offseason developments and the mindset heading into the 2025 season. One major theme of the conversation was DeBoer’s emphasis on a grueling summer training period designed to set a new standard for the team.
After a frustrating 9-4 finish in the 2024 season, DeBoer is focused on rebuilding and instilling a stronger work ethic within the program. He revealed that several players began planning offseason workouts more than a month ago, many of them traveling to train with elite NFL-level coaches and specialists during the month of May.
“I wasn’t surprised,” DeBoer said. “They had been discussing it weeks in advance — getting together at a location in May to train. We’ve just been careful to warn them not to overdo it, because the summer program we’ve planned will be the most demanding one they’ve ever experienced.”
Notable players like wide receivers Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard, quarterback Ty Simpson, and Isaiah Horton are among those who have taken the initiative to improve physically and mentally during the offseason. While DeBoer appreciates their drive, he wants them to be prepared for the intensity that awaits them in the coming months.
The coaching staff views this summer as a crucial period to reset the tone for the program and help the team move past last season’s shortcomings. DeBoer made it clear that he supports the players’ dedication, but also underscored that their hardest work still lies ahead.
Ultimately, Alabama’s offseason is shaping up to be one of significant transformation, with the coaching staff and players aligned in their pursuit of a much-improved 2025 campaign.
