After leaving Sunday’s game, Mahomes was evaluated in the blue tent before being helped to the locker room. He had played the last two weeks with a left knee injury.
When asked after the game if he feared Mahomes’ injury was serious, head coach Andy Reid said, “I don’t know, but, I mean, it didn’t look good. We’ll see where it goes.”
On social media, Mahomes wrote: “Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie (it) hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. … I will be back stronger than ever again.”
Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back…

Mahomes needed help getting up and was heavily limping on the sideline after getting hit by Chargers defensive end Da’Shawn Hand. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew entered the game with the Chiefs trailing 16-13 and threw an interception to Derwin James to seal Los Angeles’ win.
With the loss, the Chiefs have been eliminated from postseason contention for the first time since 2014.
“He’s down, man,” Minshew said of seeing Mahomes in the locker room after the game. “Obviously, it’s a tough game — been a tough year to this point. Nobody’s better for it.”
