Algerian “A” side coach Madjid Bougherra has resigned from his position following the nation’s elimination from the FIFA Arab Cup on Friday.
This is according to Prudence Ahanogbe of Afrik-Foot.
Bougherra’s side failed in their quest to secure a second successive Arab Cup title, falling to the United Arab Emirates 6-7 on penalties in their quarterfinal after a 1-1 draw in Doha, Qatar.
Under Bougherra’s guidance, Algeria were also eliminated from the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the quarterfinals in August after losing to Sudan on penalties, also following a 1-1 draw.
The decision to step down brings to an end Bougherra’s second stint in charge of the team, with the coach having enjoyed a successful spell from January 2021 to October 2023 where he led his side to victory in the inaugural edition of the Arab Cup in 2021 and reached the CHAN final in 2022.
His second stint was less successful, with the 43-year-old failing to claim silverware.
