Another quarterback is reportedly headed to the transfer portal as players begin to announce their plans to play elsewhere for the 2025 college football season.
The spring transfer window will last 10 days from April 16-25. Multiple programs across the country are still in the midst of spring practice, but that doesn’t keep some players from making their decisions early.
East Carolina quarterback Jake Garcia falls under that umbrella, as the Pirates have nearly two weeks left of practices before their spring scrimmage on April 26.
The senior reportedly skipped practice on Tuesday and has left the team with plans to enter the portal, according to Stephen Igoe of 247Sports on Tuesday.
Garcia has been a journeyman to this point, having already transferred twice in two years.
The Miami Hurricanes originally landed Garcia in the class of 2021 as a highly-touted four-star recruit out of powerhouse Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia.
Garcia (6-foot-3, 203 pounds) logged one start for the Hurricanes as a true freshman, completing 11-of-14 passes for 147 yards with two touchdowns while adding 45 yards on the ground.
A season-ending injury thwarted the rest of Garcia’s first season. He returned in 2022 and went on to make eight appearances as a backup, completing 59.1% of his passes for 803 yards with five touchdowns to four interceptions.
Garcia transferred to Missouri ahead of the 2023 season but did not see the field that year. He went on to join East Carolina in January of 2024 and unfortunately struggled as a Pirate.
Garcia appeared in six games, completing 60.2% of his passes for 1,426 yards with eight touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
He stayed at ECU this spring and competed with Katin Houser for the starting before making yet another transfer decision.
