Although Brad Binder spent multiple laps inside the top four, he ultimately finished the MotoGP Austrian GP in fifth place. At the Red Bull Ring’s Turn 6, Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) eventually passed him in an unexpected maneuver.
The South African said, “I knew if anyone was going to pass me, it was going into [turn] 6/7, because with the amount of spinning through 5, I was going through there like a snail,” in response to the question of whether he was startled by the move.
Binder thinks Márquez might have been taken aback by how slowly he moved in that segment, considering how quickly he went between Turns 5 and 7:
The next lap, I saw that he had gained a few tenths in that one corner alone after passing me. To be honest, I think that by moving so slowly around there, I astonished him.
