After a few difficult seasons, Marc Márquez joined Gresini in MotoGP this year. His severe injury in 2020 started the “calvary,” which lasted until 2023 and was made worse by other injuries and Honda’s subpar performance.
The rider joined a satellite team with the specific goals of rekindling his passion for riding, demonstrating his ability to compete, and battling for the best outcomes.
And he was successful. After finishing third in the championship and winning three races, Márquez emerged as the season’s top opponent for the two dominant riders, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac).
According to the publication Marca, the eight-time world champion stressed that 2024 was a year of accomplishments even though he did not capture a title, either the independent rider crown or the overall championship:
We didn’t win a title this year, but we gained a lot more, I told Gresini. I was able to rebuild my identity and continue playing sports. I had doubts and ghosts in my thoughts, but they were all satisfactorily answered. I’ll make an effort to maintain this joy as happiness makes you quick.
