Brad Binder was once again the best KTM rider at Sachsenring on Sunday, but don’t think the South African had an easy life: the team had to make major modifications to the bike in order to try to compete, and even then, he assured, it wasn’t possible because the riders ahead of him were in a class of their own.
Showcasing some of the modifications completed and discussing his concerns, Binder, who finished ninth in the long race, said, “In the last two days we made radical changes to the bike, we used parameters we’ve never used before to try to find some more performance.” I think we’ve improved this weekend in the corner, especially when compared to the start of the competition weekend, but we still can’t carry as much pace as the other guys when we come out of the corner. We obviously didn’t perform well because we stopped so frequently.
He acknowledges that the rivals were faster and more physically fit, but on the plus side, he learned more about the bike and its settings:
The men ahead of us were all in a different level than us, so it was challenging to stay composed because if you act foolishly at the start, you won’t have the tires at the finish. Everything proceeded as planned, if not very well. However, in the final section, on the Waterfall, I lost the lead and veered off the course, losing two spots. Apart from that, things are as they are. We conducted numerous tests and improved our knowledge moving ahead.
The fact that Marc Marquez started in thirteenth place and finished second proves that the Ducati is far superior to other bikes.
