When Pramac becomes a Yamaha satellite team in 2025, Fabio Quartararo wants them to give signing former MotoGP race winner Fabio Di Giannantonio first priority.
Yamaha stated during the Dutch Grand Prix this past weekend that it has reached a long-term agreement with Pramac to become the latter’s factory-backed satellite partner starting in 2025.
The roster of riders associated with the two Pramac Yamahas has expanded since that announcement.
However, 2021 world champion Quartararo made it clear on Thursday ahead of the German Grand Prix who he believes Pramac should be targeting.
“This guy [Di Giannantonio] is on my right,” he stated during the Sachsenring press conference prior to the tournament.
“I believe Fabio has what it takes to be a really strong fit for Yamaha.
Naturally, he has been performing incredibly well for the past ten months, so I’m pushing him on the route to Yamaha. He is the kind of rider we need to properly advance our idea.
A novice can also be a wise choice. I believe that [Alonso] Lopez and Sergio Garcia are well-known riders in Moto2, and they have the ability to earn a spot on a team like Pramac, which is ultimately an extension of the factory rather than a satellite team.
Di Giannantonio’s 2024 ride was only finalized after the previous season concluded, with VR46 Ducati providing a lifeline to the 2023 Qatar GP winner after Gresini chose to replace him with Marc Marquez.
Di Giannantonio is second-best GP23 rider in the standings behind Marquez and has twice as many points as his three-time GP winner teammate Marco Bezzecchi riding the 2023-spec Ducati at VR46.
The Italian stated that he will “define” his “plan A” this weekend and that he is in discussions with Yamaha and VR46, which is scheduled to receive one factory Ducati in 2025.
“To be honest, I’m thankful for this circumstance and for Fabio as well, because it’s always nice to hear these remarks from a colleague who is both a friend and a rival.”
It is no secret that my staff and I am in communication with Yamaha, as well as about the plan C, which I am unable to disclose. Fabio and I had a conversation last week regarding the project’s progress.
“As I mentioned, I’m in a good position to make decisions about my future, and this weekend, I will essentially outline my plan A.”
