In the rain-affected MotoGP Mugello Test, Brad Binder led Pedro Acosta by 0.033 seconds, with Luca Marini in third after a number of riders did not start.
That, however, was not the doctor’s order. Rainfall during the night and throughout the day caused restricted running during the MotoGP Mugello Test, with only 16 of the 23 riders setting lap times. Brad Binder of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing was the fastest, clocking in at 1:47.617, 0.033 seconds faster than Pedro Acosta of Red Bull GASGAS Tech3.
Red Bull GASGAS TECH3 and Red Bull KTM
It’s fortunate that Binder led the timesheets since it provides us with an excellent opportunity to begin with what is maybe the most noteworthy update we saw at Mugello. The bikes of the Pierer Mobility Group were equipped with improved aerodynamics, same to what they had in the Jerez Test. The update effectively covered the entire side fairing, turning it into a smooth surface. Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) only managed a wet weather lap time in P13, while Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was in P4 and recorded the second-highest lap total (32).
Honda REPSOL and IDEMITSU HONDA LCR/CASTROL
Repsol Honda Team’s Luca Marini finished the day P3 on the timesheets after setting a record-breaking 40 laps in the various circumstances. The weather thwarting every manufacturer’s intentions, reports from the ground indicate there was nothing new to report regarding new parts on the HRC machines that we didn’t witness at the Italian GP.
Marini was observed experimenting with a different tank cover in an effort to improve his ergonomics while using the RC213V. According to Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team), testing will be done on a new engine that merely modifies the existing one slightly. Keep a watch on that in the upcoming weeks, as the Spaniard mentioned Honda is aiming to have a new engine available by July. Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda LCR) and Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) combined for 58 laps, but neither was able to complete a dry run.
TRACKHOUSE and APRILIA.
The best RS-GP rider in P6 was Maverick Viñales of Aprilia Racing; both his and teammate Aleix Espargaro’s motorcycles appeared to be standard-spec. From the Noale camp, not much has changed; things are still on track.
Raul Fernandez had one 2024-spec RS-GP in the Trackhouse Racing garage, but on Monday he only completed six laps. Miguel Oliveira completed six laps on a quiet day for the American team on the opposite side of the garage.
Yamaha’s Monster Energy
Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo completed less than 20 laps on Monday, with neither stopping when the track was dry. A private test in Valencia is scheduled for soon. Yamaha will be doing more work in Valencia in preparation for a trip to Assen at the end of this month.
PERTAMINA ENDURO VR46, DUCATI LENOVO, PRIMA PRAMAC and GRESINI.
Franco Morbidelli of Prima Pramac Racing and Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing MotoGP were the only two Ducati riders to leave pitlane and record a lap time. According to the timesheets, the Italian was number fifteen and the Spaniard, sixteen.
