Marc Marquez compares Ducati move to Mbappe, Vinicius situation at Real Madrid.

When Marc Marquez tried to describe the dynamic of the factory Ducati MotoGP team prior to his move for the 2025 season, he turned to football. When Kylian Mbappe, a forward for Real Madrid, joins main man Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, Marquez stated he will have a lot to prove. He compared him to Vinicius Junior in the Real Madrid example.

After joining the factory Ducati team ahead of 2025, MotoGP star Marc Marquez likened his circumstances to those of Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid.

Francesco Bagnaia, the 2022 and 2023 champion and a mainstay of Ducati, will team up with six-time champion Marquez.

When talking about the strain of joining a new squad, Marquez also brought up Mbappe’s summer transfer to the defending Liga and UEFA Champions League winners.

The Spaniard stated on “El Cafelito” that Vinicius is the reference and the one who is present.”Mbappe will then need to adjust.

“In the Ducati box, Pecco is the reference. In that box, he has won 11 races this year, competed for the World Championship until the final race, and won the title twice.

Compared to Mbappe, who hasn’t yet reached the heights expected of him in Madrid, Marquez will hope for a smoother adjustment.

Marquez hasn’t won a world championship since 2019, but he had a great 2024. With Ducati, the 31-year-old hopes to alter that.

He disclosed that he caught general manager Luigi Dall’Igna’s attention thanks to an outstanding season finale.

“In sport you live in the present, you are worth what you have done in your last races, and I was just standing out, adapting to Ducati,” he stated.

“I was improving steadily when he [Dall’Igna] made a decision for me. I simply answered, “Okay, where do I sign?” when they informed me that I had been selected, without questioning why.

“Gigi told me and I reacted gratefully and I’m going to try to make the decision the right one.”

As he turned his focus to Formula 1, Marquez also took the opportunity to commend Fernando Alonso, a fellow Spaniard who, at 43, has continued to perform well with Aston Martin.

“He never stops working,” Marquez remarked. “He can do anything because of his talent, but he plays a sport that relies heavily on mechanics. We’ll see if [Adrian] Newey can build him a successful vehicle.

Marquez hopes to follow in Alonso’s footsteps and continue to play well into his 30s and possibly beyond. He also disclosed that his switch to Gresini proved to be revitalising in an interview with MotoGP.com last week.

“For me, the move I did last year has already been a success, because, if not, this year I would announce my retirement,” he stated.

A year ago, I was filled with doubts and a lot of questions. After a year, all of these uncertainties vanish, and I return to a competitive level.

“We won’t discuss the level of 2019, but rather a competitive level that is sufficient to keep working, pushing, and most importantly, maintaining the unique spirit of MotoGP.” “We taste again that victory, that podium, that special intensity that, when you’re fighting on the top, is different.”
