A shady San Marino MotoGP sees Brad Binder and Jack Miller come into their own, keeping the KTM Factory team in the lead.
In the race for second place in the 2024 MotoGP Constructors’ standings, KTM overtook Aprilia because to strong performances from factory riders Brad Binder and Jack Miller at the unpredictable San Marino MotoGP.
Binder and Miller, two riders renowned for their skill in inclement weather, were among those to climb up the order during a brief period of precipitation. The two riders momentarily occupied the provisional podium spots at Misano.
Even if the weather became better again, Binder managed to finish in fourth position, so he at least held his own.
The South African declared himself happy with the outcome, in part because it moved him up to sixth in the overall rankings. However, since the season’s opening event in Qatar, he has not stood on a podium.
He remarked, “It was a different race.” It was spitting the entire time, but not enough to be able to see it adhere to the track, so it was incredibly shady sitting on the grid.
It was challenging to gauge how hard to push and what risks to take since we had a lap when it got a little wet and then the track was mostly dry again.
“But we did the best we could today, so I’m happy we came in fourth.”
Speaking about the weather, Miller—who is still without a ride for the 2025 MotoGP season—told himself that the rain always feels heavier when moving quickly, so he tried to remain composed.
I felt okay,” he continued. “I tried to tell myself that I am traveling a long distance, so it appears like more droplets than it really is. It’s always tough when you can smell the rain and see all the drips on the visor.
The turns were a little treacherous, so my only goal was to stay clear of them. I had Marc, Pecco, and Brad in front of me for a little while, so you’re not the only person returning to virgin territory. You can disregard their efforts to narrow the difference.
With seven races left in 2024, the Austrian manufacturer is currently ranked second among constructors, despite the fact that KTM has not won this year, in contrast to Aprilia, which has finished on the podium four times.
